Introduction

Agriculture is the major sector of our economy. It plays a fundamental role in raising the living standard of the people as well as socio economic status of the rural population. The present Provincial Government realized the ground realities and took several initiatives to boost up agriculture sector in Punjab. It is mandatory to disseminate technical know-how and to transfer new technology to the farming community. To achieve these goals, Agricultural Training Institute Karor Laleason Distt. Layyah provides streetlights in the shape of trained three year’s DAS diploma holder Field Assistants. We are living in an era of major structural change. The global scenario of knowledge-based economy has posed a serious challenge to the developing world. The demand to upgrade one’s knowledge and professional skills in the knowledge-based economy has become increasingly indispensable. Human resource is the life blood of any country. Shortage of trained manpower is a major constraint in improving agricultural productivity in the country because it pervades the whole spectrum of activities aimed at increasing food, feed and fibre production.

LOCATION & HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE

Agricultural Training Institute is situated opposite to Railway Station, adjacent to Commerce College, Para Veterinary School and Sports Stadium at Layyah Bypass Road, Karor Lal Eason,Distt. Layyah. It is present in Southern Punjab, province of Pakistan. It is located at 300.58’0 N ,700.56’0 E, with an altitude of 143 m above Mean Sea Level. Layyah district has an extremely hot climate. Maximum Temperature in the summer goes up to 53Co, Minimum Temperature 2.0-degree centigrade, Highest Wind Speed 45 Kilo Nots. The temperature in winter is low due to its nearest to Koh Suleman range of mountains. In the district, agriculture is developing but still has large sandy dunes and uncultivated land. The Indus River passes from north to south on the western side of the district. Layyah is famous for the production of watermelon, gram and citrus.

OBJECTIVES

I. To produce front line workers (Field Assistants) by organizing a 3 year’s “Diploma in Agricultural Sciences” (DAS) course for the matriculates with science subjects admitted out of the districts of Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Mianwali, Bhakkar and D.G.Khan.
II. To enhance teaching expertise through conducting on-campus trainings of faculty staff.

HOSTEL: One double storey Student Hostel comprising 30 rooms having total capacity for 120 students.
MOSQUE: A mosque in between the Admin. / Academic block and the hostel.

MULTIMEDIA: Use of multimedia in the class rooms as well as Computer Lab..
COMPUTER LAB: Air conditioned computer lab. Equipped with 24 Nos. latest computers having capacity for 24 persons & demonstration through multimedia.
LIBRARY: 1046 books, daily newspapers & Agri. Magazines etc

Activities of the Institute

A) ACADEMIC
1) REGULAR ACTIVITY: (PRE-SERVICE TRAINING)
“Three Years Diploma in Agricultural Sciences” for selected candidates from tagged areas of the Institute is a regular mandatory function of Agricultural Training Institute Karor, Distt. Layyah. The institute is affiliated with University of Agriculture, Faisalabad for the purpose of examinations and Diploma conferring body.
ADMISSION CRITERIA:
i) Matriculate with Science subjects with at least second division (Not less than 45% pass marks).
ii) Maximum age limit 23 years for fresh candidates while 30 years for eligible beldars (permanent employees of Agri. Extension department of Punjab).

Future Plan of Work

. The Institute will continue admission of 50 matriculates for three Year’s Diploma in Agricultural Sciences (DAS) every year.
2. Despite absence of In-service facilities, this institute has planned to conduct three day’s duration In-service Trainings for Agriculture Officers / Farm Managers / Assistant Research Officers and Field Assistants / Agri. Inspectors. Two courses for each category shall be organized during the financial year 2023-24.
3. All necessary steps will be taken to keep up the standard / quality of the education / trainings.
4. Annual Inter-Institutional Sports Competition shall be made a regular feature during March, every year.
5. Mahfil-e-Milad and all other National / traditional days will be celebrated as per occasion.
6. All efforts will be made to make the DAS practical oriented.
7. All out measures will be adopted to achieve income targets from the farm.
8. Manuals for various in-service training courses shall be prepared.
9. Efforts shall be made to upgrade the library with more new books and journals.
