Mr.Sarfraz Hussain Magsi Special Secretary Agriculture South Punjab, along with the Director Agriculture (Ext.) D.G.Khan and his team visited the field regarding Early Cotton Campaign these activities monitored. 1. Meeting with Progressive farmers at the dera of Sardar Allah Nawaz Khan Gopang in UC Haji Ghazi Gharbi, Dera Ghazi Khan . Talked with Farmers regarding Sowing of Early Cotton. Also briefed farmers about ” Agriculture Transformation Plan” and incentive for sowing Early cotton. Then visited the off- season Tomato subsidy plot. The farmers were inter-cropping early cotton in Tomato sown in Tunnels. 2. Monitored Farmers Day on Tomato Demonstration Plot of Munir Ahmad Talpur in UC Choti Bala, Tehsil Kot Chutta, addressed farmers for adopting sowing of early cotton either on fallow lands or intercropping with suitable existing row/bed crops and after harvesting of other crops like Raya, Canola etc. Then visited Tomato Demonstration Plot and found the satisfactory results of Tomato Project as without any tunnel, the crop was in good condition. All other crops and vegetables were showing parliness in maturity behaviour. Finally directed Agriculture (Ext.) and Horticulture Departments to keep data of different temperature regimes to utilize this for farmers benefits.

South Punjab is the food basket of Pakistan because Cotton 94%, Wheat 46%, Rice 24%, Corn 39%, Sugarcane 50%, Sunflower 75%, Mango 98%, Red Pepper 99%, Tomato 46%, Ginger 28%, Onion 73%, Cucumber 58% and among fruits Melon 37%, Citrus 14%, Banana 98%, Falsa 95%, Dates 59% most of the production of important crops comes from South Punjab.

Total 10.312 employed

It has total population of 34.744 out of which 26.624 live in rural areas which makes 77% population. Total 10.312 people are employed in agriculture sector in which 5.446 are males and 4.866 females.
