Agricultural estimates play an important and primary role in the National Economic Program, the stability of import/export price policies, the National Food Budget, the provision of industrial raw materials, and other development projects.
Therefore, timely and accurate estimation of acreage and production for cultivated crops in the country is crucial. The Crop Reporting Service in the Agriculture Department, D.G. Khan Division, conducts field surveys to prepare estimates for all major and minor crops, including orchards, during the Precise Crops’ Estimates Timely Crop Reporting Service Kharif and Rabi seasons each year. These estimates are then forwarded to the Director General’s office in Lahore for publication. After receiving subsequent approval from the Punjab Agricultural Statistics Coordination Board, they are sent to the Federal Government for final publication. The field reports prepared by the Agriculture Department’s field staff appointed in selected villages are given due importance in the Crop Estimation Work. The Crop Reporting Service, Agriculture Department, Punjab, is adopting the Area Frame Sampling (AFS) method to improve the accuracy of the estimates. Out of the total villages in the D.G. Khan division, 651 village segments have been selected for the crop estimation work.
