Agriculture is considered as the back bone of Pakistan’s economy due to majority of population depends on this profession. Lion’s share of our exports also depends on Agriculture.


To frame policies and planning of the country as accurate statistics play a pivotal role. For this end, Government. of Punjab created Statistical Organizations in the planning and Development and Agriculture Department in 1957-58. The statistical cell was further Strengthened during 1967-68 by providing District and Tehsil staff which was placed under extension wing of Agriculture Department. Keeping in view the paramount importance of the efficient and reliable estimate for Govt. as well as user agencies. Independent organization was seriously felt and a separate Directorate of Crop Reporting Service was created as an independent organization with effect from 01-04-1978 in the Agriculture Department in the Punjab.
Services
The key functions performed by the Crop Reporting Service, are as follows:
- Acreage Estimation Surveys of all major and important minor crops of Kharif & Rabi seasons
- Yield Estimation Surveys all major and important minor crops
- Crop Condition Surveys.
- Growers’ Opinion Surveys on important crops (Acreage & Yield).
- Cost of Production Surveys.
